The Last of Us: Bella Ramsey Says Season 2 Has a Darker Story
Warning: This article contains major spoilers for The Last of Us Season 1 and The Last of Us Part II video game.
The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey has teased what the next season of the show has in store for viewers. They mentioned that the upcoming season will be much a darker version. Ramsey also added that the next season’s story is about revenge and the consequences of unconditional love.
Bella Ramsey on the dangers of unconditional love
Bella Ramsey, also known for their role in Game of Thrones, portrays Ellie from the hit PlayStation video game. Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II game had a shocking turn in the story early on, which is what Ramsey is referring to here. Ramsey said to Vanity Fair, “It’s darker. It’s really a story about revenge, and a continuation from the first season about the dangers of unconditional love.”
The Last of Us Season 1 ended with Joel going on a killing rampage to save Ellie from the Fireflies. The next season will continue the story from that point, but certain events from the first game served as pivotal moments for the next instalment. It is expected that The Last of Us Season 2 will be following the same storyline with some minor creative deviations and liberties taken by Naughty Dog President and showrunner Neil Druckmann as well as Craig Mazin.
What happens in The Last of Us Part II game
The Last of Us Part II dealt with Ellie’s quest for revenge after Joel was killed. Ellie went on to kill many people from Abby’s group. It was later revealed that Abby was the daughter of the surgeon Joel killed at the end of The Last of Us while trying to save Ellie. The Last of Us Part II also dealt with the cycle of revenge and its consequences, as referenced by Ramsey. Their statement also makes it likely that Joel will indeed die, despite some coy comments made by Mazin. When quizzed about Joel’s death, he said that neither he nor Druckmann feels constrained by the source material.
