Triple H presents new Undisputed WWE Universal Championship to Roman Reigns
Roman Reigns has been presented with a brand new Undisputed WWE Universal Championship belt.
The Tribal Chief hit 1,000 days as world champion six days ago at Night of Champions, and now WWE boss Triple H has commemorated that historic achievement by introducing a new title.
It means Roman will no longer be carrying around separate WWE and Universal Titles, instead being presented with fresh gold.
Unveiled on SmackDown, the new championship isn’t a big departure from the previous designs, as it still features the WWE logo as the centrepiece.
However, in a twist the logo is more of a black design, with the background itself a solid gold rather than the blue or black used with its predecessors.
Before unveiling the title, Triple H said: ‘On behalf of the WWE, and on behalf of the entire WWE Universe, I would like to congratulate you on surpassing 1,000 days as champion – something that hasn’t been accomplished in WWE in almost 40 years. It truly is epic.
‘To congratulate you and to celebrate this historic achievement, it is my honour to present you with a brand new Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.’
It now means the company officially has two world titles again, with Roman’s now confirmed to be recognised as one prize on SmackDown, rather than having him carry around both belts.
It wasn’t a great night for the Head of the Table by the time things came to a close though, as his celebration was interrupted by cousins The Usos, with Jimmy not holding back after Superkicking Roman at Night of Champions.
Solo Sikoa looked to have chosen his brothers’ side, only to lay out Jimmy and leave the ring with Roman as Jey comforted his twin while The Bloodline continues to crumble.
Meanwhile, the reveal of a new title comes days after Seth Rollins became the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion representing Raw by beating AJ Styles in the tournament final at Night of Champions.
While the Undisputed WWE Universal Title is very much wrapped up in Roman and The Bloodline’s saga, Seth and AJ both made it clear they wanted Raw’s title to be for the workhorses of the company.
That certainly looks set to be the case as The Visionary has had an open challenge accepted for Money’s show and will put the gold on the line against The Judgment Day’s Damian Priest.
WWE Raw (Mondays) and SmackDown (Fridays) air weekly at 1am on BT Sport 1.
