Insidious Getting Spin-Off Film Starring Mandy Moore, Kumail Nanjiani

A Insidious spinoff film has been announced, starring Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani about a couple using a spell to save their daughter.

Insidious: The Red Door is releasing in a couple of weeks, and we already know where the franchise is heading next. Thread: An Insidious Tale is in the works at Screen Gems, Blumhouse, and Atomic Monster, starring Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani. While not a continuation of the series, it is instead an offshoot of the franchise. Jeremy Slater will direct the film from a script he has written himself. This will be his feature film debut as a director after having a hand in creating fan-favorite shows like Moon Knight, The Umbrella Academy, and the underrated Exorcist show. In Thread, a couple (Moore and Nanjiani) use a spell to go back in time to prevent the death of their daughter. Wouldn’t you know it, though, that turns out to be a bad idea? Deadline had the news of the film.

Insidious Offshoots Were Inevitable

The Insidious franchise has released four movies to date that have grossed over $500 million at the box office, with the fifth installment, The Red Door, releasing in theaters on July 7. That one is directed by star Patrick Wilson. You can see the trailer for that film below.

“In Insidious: The Red Door, the horror franchise’s original cast returns for the final chapter of the Lambert family’s terrifying saga. To put their demons to rest once and for all, Josh (Patrick Wilson) and a college-aged Dalton (Ty Simpkins) must go deeper into The Further than ever before, facing their family’s dark past and a host of new and more horrifying terrors that lurk behind the red door. The original cast from Insidious is back with Patrick Wilson (also making his directorial debut), Ty Simpkins, Rose Byrne, and Andrew Astor. Also starring Sinclair Daniel and Hiam Abbass. Produced by Jason Blum, Oren Peli, James Wan, and Leigh Whannell. The screenplay is written by Scott Teems from a story by Leigh Whannell, based on characters created by Leigh Whannell.”
