Seeking advice on the ‘Am I the a******’ Reddit forum, an anonymous user wanted to know if “ambushing” his sister, Tracy’s wedding reception was the right decision.
The man explained how he and her sister “aren’t close” but “have a good relationship” before the wedding.
Tracy and her partner’s wedding “was child-free”, but the man wondered if an exception would be made for his 12-year-old daughter Ella. Unfortunately, Tracy and her partner “were sticking to the rules”, so arrangements were made for Ella to stay at a friend’s house, while her parents attended the wedding.
However, when the man arrived at the wedding, he “saw quite a few older children, including my other siblings’ kids”.
The man told other Reddit users how he “never thought to ask” his other siblings if their children were attending the wedding.

“I did ask my brother at the wedding and he said he was told the child-free limit was only for really young kids, the disruptive ages,” the man explained online. “It was obvious Tracy lied to me about not bringing Ella.”
After the ceremony, and “towards the end of the reception”, the man felt she needed to confront his sister, so he “pulled Tracy aside and said I realised she’d completely lied to me and there were plenty of other kids”.
Tracy “looked pretty uncomfortable and said it wasn’t a big deal, but I replied I deserve an apology, and so does Ella at some point”.
Tracy then “got mad and said I was ambushing her at her own wedding”, citing it is up to Tracy and her husband “what they do” in terms of guests.
Following the wedding, Tracy sent her brother a text claiming he was “being selfish” and should apologise for “making a big deal” at her wedding.
“I’ll admit I sent a not-so-nice text back about her caring more about aesthetics than people. Now it’s sort of blown up within our family,” the woman admitted.
Over 3,000 comments have been posted in response, with many suggesting the man was not an a****** for her behaviour.
The man also revealed in the comments section his suspicions as to why his daughter wasn’t invited but other children were: “My daughter’s arm was amputated when she and my late wife were in an accident. Tracy didn’t say it directly but I could tell this is highly likely the reason why, so that’s why I said she cares more about aesthetics than people.”
One said: “NTA. She lied to you and excluded your daughter and then tried to make her lying your fault by claiming you’re selfish. Your sister should be apologizing to you and your daughter.”
Another wrote: “Your sister lied to you. Regardless of the time and place, you were justified in being upset and asking her why she lied. You and your daughter do deserve an apology and your sister needs to give one.”
A third mentioned: “Frankly, after finding out the reason, I think you were more than a little restrained in your response. I can’t understand why she would think you’d just not care or that your daughter wouldn’t care.”
