Shubman Gill knocks MI out of IPL 2023; Sachin Tendulkar gives him a masterclass

Gujarat Titans (GT) opener Shubman Gill was locked in an intense conversation with the former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar during the match against Mumbai Indians. Sachin congratulated the young Indian batter after his third century in just 4 matches. While sitting in the dugout, Sachin could be seen giving some tips to the GT batter.

The 23-year-old scored 129 runs off just 60 balls with a strike rate of 215. The century by Shubman Gill took the Gujarat Titans to a formidable total of 233. Mumbai Indians lost the match by 62 runs Despite valiant efforts by Tilak Varma and Surya Kumar Yadav.

Speaking at the post-match press presentation, Gill said, “I think this was probably my best innings so far in the IPL”

Elaborating his approach in the IPL, the young Indian batter said, “For me, it is playing ball to ball, over to over. The over where I hit three sixes gave me the momentum to go big. That’s when I realised it could be my day. It was a good wicket to bat on as well. Not a conscious decision, you keep inventing as a batter but for me the belief is more important.

2023 has been a special year for Shubman Gill with many record breaking innings. Gill scored his first T20 international century in January this year. He followed that up with a century against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in February. He also joined the elite list of players to score a double century in ODIs.

Shubman Gill also currently holds the Orange Cap for the most number of runs. On the back of his three centuries, Gill has managed to score 851 runs at an average of 60.78 and a strike rate of 156.43. He is also only the third-highest run-scorer in IPL history and only the second Indian opener after Virat Kohli to cross the 800-run mark in a single IPL season.
