Man Utd, Man City and Chelsea hoping to snap up Arsenal wonderkid
Arsenal record-breaker Ethan Nwaneri is yet to agree a new contract with the club and the trio of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are preparing to pounce.
Now 16, Nwaneri made history earlier this season when he became the youngest ever player in the Premier League, coming on for the Gunners in a win at Brentford in September at just 15 years old.
That has been his only first team appearance to date, but the midfielder has continued to shine in the Arsenal youth teams, regularly turning out for the Under-21 and Under-18 sides.
He is also shining on the international stage, scoring for England against Croatia at the European Under-17 Championship last week in Hungary.
Arsenal know full well that they have a very bright prospect on their hands and are keen to keep him at the club, but Nwaneri is yet to accept their contract offer.
As The Athletic reports, his schoolboy registration finishes in June, he can then sign scholarship forms before signing a professional contract when he turns 17 in March next year.
With no agreement yet in place for after June, the Premier League trio of Chelsea and both Manchester clubs are circling to snap up the teenager.
Speaking last month, Arsenal Under-18 coach Jack Wilshere said of Nwaneri: ‘We all hope he stays because he’s an exceptional talent.
‘As coaches, we don’t get involved and we don’t talk about that. I think we have to make it clear we don’t talk about that. Our job is to develop Ethan to help him when he goes with the first-team.’
