Windows 10 users hit by another frustrating reason to switch to Windows 11

Microsoft really wants millions of users to switch away from Windows 10 and finally make the jump over to its latest Windows 11 operating system. The Redmond company has already confirmed that all support for this software will end in 2025 and it’s no longer pushing out shiny new features for those with it installed on their PCs.

Now Microsoft is making another attempt at getting people to switch by taking over their screens with full-page Windows 11 adverts.

As spotted by the team at Windows Latest, these pop-up alerts say, “Now unlocked: You’re eligible for a free upgrade to Windows 11. Don’t worry-you’ll be able to use your C while the download runs in the background.”

Even if users decline, they will still see a number of other windows that explain why making the move is a good idea.

Windows Latest has also confirmed that these full-screen banners can’t be switched off although it’s unclear how often they will continue to appear once a user says no.

Despite the end of Windows 10 nearing and Windows 11 getting exclusive upgrades there’s still a vast number of people who clearly don’t want to make the jump.

According to the latest figures from Statcounter, Windows 10 still has a huge 70 percent share of the market with Windows 11 accounting for just 23 percent of Microsoft users.

With just two years left until Windows 10 no longer receives any more security patches or updates Microsoft will want those figures to change pretty quickly and maybe that’s why they have started a fresh campaign to get people moving.

“The current version, 22H2, will be the final version of Windows 10,” said Microsoft’s Jason Leznek in a post on the US firm’s blog. “We highly encourage you to transition to Windows 11 now as there won’t be any additional Windows 10 feature updates.”

Of course, there is one slight issue with switching over to Windows 11 as not all PCs are compatible and that means some will need to buy a new device to use the latest OS.

To use Windows 11 you’ll need a decent processor and something called  a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0 for added security.

Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with two or more cores on a compatible 64-bit processor or system on a chip (SoC).

RAM: 4 gigabytes (GB) or greater.

Storage: 64 GB or greater available storage is required to install Windows 11.

Graphics card: Compatible with DirectX 12 or later, with a WDDM 2.0 driver.

TPM: Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0.
