Kyra Sedgwick on filming sex scenes with Kevin Bacon: ‘It’s much harder’
The pyrokinesis movie really messed with her mind.
Kyra Sedgwick recently admitted that shooting intimate scenes in movies with Kevin Bacon is “weird” — reasoning it’s hard to tell fact from fiction while filming.
“It’s much harder,” Sedgwick told Yahoo! Entertainment in an interview published Friday. “It’s weird because we’re always like, ‘Is this real or is it not?’”
She continued: “As an actor, you sometimes have these dreams when you start a job where you’re sleeping and they’re filming you. With ‘Pyrates,’ I was [sleeping] with my husband and they were filming it! It’s like, ‘This can’t be real — I’m having a dream.’”
Bacon, 64, and Sedgwick, 57, starred in the 1991 comedy “Pyrates,” about a couple who create and control fire with their minds when they have sex.
“I really wanted to do the movie, and we couldn’t find a male lead who would raise the money to make it,” Sedgwick recalled to Yahoo.
She added: “I asked Kevin if he would read the script, and he liked the idea of us doing it together. We didn’t think, ‘Is it weird for us to do a sex comedy?’ At the time, we were newly married and had our first kid, so the idea of us playing this couple that has such great sex that the room spontaneously bursts into flame was really funny.”
The pair, who wed in 1988, also filmed sexy scenes in 1995’s “Murder in the First” and 2004’s “The Woodsman.”
They met on the set of the 1988 PBS film “Lemon Sky,” according to People.
They have two children together, Travis Sedgwick Bacon, 33, and Sosie Ruth Bacon, 31, who is also an actress, starring in 2022’s “Smile.”
The couple shared their secrets to a long relationship in an interview with People in March.
“We’ve always been each other’s biggest support and fans,” Sedgwick told the outlet. “A sense of humor is crucial. He is very freaking funny.”
For his part, Bacon said he relishes all of their shared moments — even when they’re just doing mundane activities.
“To me, walking down the street together just shooting the s – – t in the middle of the night still feels like a nice place to be,” Bacon explained.
Those aren’t the only things keeping their spark alive.
In September 2021, Bacon shared a photo on Instagram of a pair of his wife’s underwear — a navy blue lace thong adorned with the words “I [heart] KB” in rhinestones.
He also gave her a bikini wax during COVID-19 quarantine.
Bacon is starring in Sedgwick’s big-screen directorial debut, “Space Oddity.”
It’s the first time Sedgwick has directed Bacon, though he has directed her in two films and several episodes of the TV series “The Closer.”
“I can be a little more exacting, and I’m always coming at things from a very emotional place,” Sedgwick told Yahoo. “Whereas Kevin is often thinking about how he wants to tell things visually that gets him to that emotional place. Things are a little more technical for him, and I’m thinking about how I want the audience to be feeling all the time.”
