BJP leader Sabyasachi Dutta returns to Trinamool Congress
The former Trinamool MLA and Bidhannagar Municipality Chairman and long-time MLA, Sabyasachi Dutta had defected to BJP in 2019 ahead of Lok Sabha polls.
After “ghar wapsi”, Dutta said, “Whatever I have done today is due to Mamata Banerjee. I was associated with the Municipality for a long period and then became Vice-chairman. I also became Mayor. I was MLA from 2011. I owe everything to Mamata Banerjee.”
Explaining his reason for leaving the party, Dutta said, “I had left the party duty due to some internal differences and I became emotional on the matter. I will start my journey afresh as Mamata Didi has accepted me again.”
It is pertinent to mention that Sabyasachi Dutta, who has substantial influence in the Saltlake area, had differences with another party heavyweight leader and Trinamool Minister Sujit Bose. Before Sabyasachi Dutta joined today, it is learnt that Mamata Banerjee had called Bose to be present during the joining, party sources said. However, Sujit Bose was not present during the joining ceremony today.
Dutta was defeated from Bidhannagar Constituency fighting with a BJP ticket in the recently concluded assembly polls.
BJP leader Sabyasachi Dutta, who rejoined Trinamool Congress today, had joined the BJP ahead of the 2019, and was given ticket from the Bidhannagar seat by BJP. However, he was defeated by Trinamool candidate Sujit Bose. He was a former Trinamool MLA and ex-Mayor of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation.
Trinamool Congress Spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said, “Many leaders defected to BJP before the polls thinking that they will win with huge margin. However, they had no idea that Mamata Banerjee would come to power with such a huge majority. Now understanding their mistake, they are returning to the Trinamool Congress.
Meanwhile, the Opposition protested the issue of Trinamool Congress using the office of the Minister Partha Chatterjee as its “party office” and Sabyasachi Dutta joining Trinamool Congress in his room.
“The people who intend to stay in the sphere of power are leaving the BJP. However, the real dedicated workers will always stick to the saffron party,” BJP spokesperson Shamik Bhattacharya said.
“The WB assembly witnessed a rare & exceptional event which no other Assembly in India has ever seen or witnessed. The Ruling Party using the Assembly as its own Party Office is plain & simple ridiculous. Making someone join the party fold at the Assembly defames it considerably,” Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari tweeted.
