Dani Dyer quits acting: ‘I am happy with the Love Island route’
Once upon a time the 26-year-old once had silver-screen ambitions and even starred in a few films, including Vendetta and Run for Your Wife, alongside her dad.
She ventured out on her own in We Still Kill the Old Way and Bonded by Blood 2 in her early twenties, before turning her hand to reality TV.
Her most recent acting credit is playing a pregnant taxi driver on Eastenders, who was rushed to hospital by Mick (Danny) when her labour suddenly and unexpectedly began.
‘I don’t think I’ll be acting again,’ she told Metro.co.uk.
Some former Love Islanders want to shake off the branding quickly after leaving the villa, but Dani is content with where it’s taken her.
‘I absolutely loved acting when I was younger. It was something that was so fun for me at first but then I took the Love Island route. I’m enjoying the route that I’ve gone down.’
Dani predicts another member of her family will be the acting star: ‘I think my sister will be the actress. We’ve always said that my sister will be the most successful out of us all.’
No pressure for 16-year-old Sunnie!
Dani may not be acting, but she is back on our TV screens with a new travel show entitled Absolutely Dyer: Danny and Dani Do Italy.
During the first episode Danny, 45, shares his confusion over what his own job title is these days.
‘My dad is a man of many talents. I reassure him that he’s still an actor, but he’s also an amazing presenter. I’m his biggest fan and he’s mine. We guide and support each other when we need it. We’ve always given each other advice.’
During the four-part series airing on Channel 4, the father and daughter set out to explore Italy.
The pair are stepping out of their comfort zone, as they’ve admitted they are not travelers and usually prefer drinks by the pool on holiday.
But that’s certainly not what they get – the duo visit an active volcano, eat tuna seamen, and attempt squid fishing all within the first episode.
There was a third explorer – Dani’s son Santiago, two, but he remained off-camera.
‘Honestly, my dad is my best friend in the world. I keep saying to Jarrod I can’t wait for him to have this relationship with our girls. I love my mom. My mom is like my sister. But with my dad I want to look after him, even though he’s older than me,’ Dani sweetly told us.
‘Working together was easy, it’s like working with a friend. He’s the naughty dad, and I’m the one trying to reign him in. When we got back from the trip I really missed him. I tried to give him a week’s break before I started popping ’round his house.’
Dani is also fronting the E4 documentary Dani Dyer: Is This Anxiety? which will explore the mental health of new mums and share her personal battle.
She even teased another new show coming later this year.
‘It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. It was fun, but I can’t talk about it.’
One show she definitely won’t be doing, though, is Scared of the Dark, which is hosted by her dad.
‘Oh my God, I couldn’t do it. I would be so scared. I think in that kind of environment you can never really know where you’re gonna be and how you’re gonna feel. I think anyone would have a little bit of a funny turn in there.
‘At least on Love Island we had some lights,’ she quips.
Dani also doesn’t want to always just work with her dad.
‘We’ve got to stop all that. People will think it’s favouritism if I go on it, but it’s a great show. I’ve been absolutely loving it. I’ve said to my dad, you’re smashing the presenting.’
Absolutely Dyer: Danny & Dani do Italy airs Sunday, April 23 at 9pm on E4.
