State pension payments will be issued early for some next week

State pension payments will undergo a temporary change in the coming days. The change is a result of the upcoming bank holiday and is likely to impact when hundreds of thousands of people receive their payments.

The early May Bank Holiday this year falls on Monday, May 1, 2023.

It will mean the temporary closure of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), impacting state pension payments.

As a result, this will mean slight changes happening within the coming days.

The day a pension is paid typically depends on a person’s National Insurance number – namely, the last two digits.

Numbers between 00 and 19 will see a payment date of Monday, while digits 20 to 39 get a payment day of Tuesday.

Wednesday payments are issued to individuals with the numbers 40 to 59, and Thursday to those with 60 to 79.

Finally, if a person has the digits 80 to 99, they can expect a Friday payment.

Consequently, it is Britons with numbers 00 to 19 who should pay particular attention to the temporary change.

State pension payments have increased recently, with a 10.1 percent top-up delivered to eligible individuals.

The full new state pension is now £203.85 per week.

However, some may get less than this if they were contracted out before April 6, 2016.

Meanwhile, the full basic state pension payment is currently £156.20 per week.
