It was a week of entertainment honours, as the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television celebrated homegrown stars in film, TV and digital media at the 11th annual Canadian Screen Awards. From April 11 to 14, Meridian Hall was the scene for the ceremonies, which went live and in-person for the first time since 2019. Samantha Bee hosted a highlights special, which aired April 16 on CBC. Filmmaker Clement Virgo’s Scarborough-set drama “Brother” took home 12 awards, as did the CBC series “The Porter,” establishing new records as the most-honoured movie and TV show, respectively, in Canadian Screen history. Ryan Reynolds, Lisa LaFlamme and Catherine O’Hara, among others, all received special awards.
