My city has so many potholes I’ve made a game ranking their depth and danger
A DAD reckons the sheer number of potholes in his city trumps the lot.
So Nick Hearne has made an online game ranking the depth and danger of each crater.
After measuring and snapping dozens of crumbling carriageways, he created a “Pot Trumps” card for each hole on Instagram.
The dad of two scores each one for diameter, depth and danger — plus their Pot Trumps rating.
Nick, 46, acted after a giant road hole caused £250 damage to his Renault Scenic’s suspension as he drove his son home from a skateboard lesson in Chelmsford, Essex.
The graphic designer said: “I heard the clunk and knew something was wrong.
“I was astonished by the damage.
“Delivery drivers have been sending me long lists of potholes causing trouble.
“I think there are at least 70 to be fixed.
“Hopefully, this will embarrass and shame Essex County Council, because complaining through the official channels isn’t working.
“Pot Trumps is uniting locals.
“It’s making a bit of fun out of a serious problem.
“It’s like Swiss cheese out there — they’re getting bigger and bigger every day.”
Essex Highways said resurfacing and maintenance was under way across the county and urged people to report problems so staff can “inspect and prioritise accordingly”.
