Full list of bank branch closures in 2023 – over 400 sites to close

Some 5,162 bank and building society branches have closed since January 2015, according to Which?. Over 400 sites have so far been announced to close over the year, and the number only seems to be increasing. HSBC has recently announced the closures of 114 banks this year, as well as Barclays who will shut down a total of 84.

These popular banks are not the only ones to make a move to more digital banking as Lloyds is closing at least 62 banks in total, while NatWest has 106 scheduled to shut their doors forever this year.

Banking through a computer, banking app, or mobile phone has become popular due to the speed and convenience of doing this wherever one may be.

The negative outcome, however, has meant a change to the high street, with banking closures becoming more common and resultant job losses.
