A point against Chiefs is better than nothing, says Gallants’ Mdaka | The Citizen

Marumo Gallants interim coach Raymond Mdaka says they will take any point at this stage of the season in their fight for survival in the DStv Premiership.

This comes after Bahlabane Ba Ntwa held Kaizer Chiefs to a 1-1 this past weekend, with the club fighting their way back into the game after Ashley du Preez had put Amakhosi in the lead as early as the sixth minute in the game, with Ranga Chivaviro levelling matters just after the half hour mark at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Mdaka admits that they were gunning for maximum points on the day, but things didn’t go as planned for them.

“It’s difficult, we wanted all the points honestly. But it wasn’t that flowing for us, we lost a lot of balls in the middle of the park. We were caught in the first few minutes and they scored a goal and we were able to come back. We forced (to play) because we knew that we had to put the ball on the ground and play, but it was not happening,” said Mdaka.

“But, other than that, let’s accept the point we got. The spirit is still high, the character is good, and we will take it from there.”

Mdaka believes getting a point against Chiefs is better than anything in their mission to get out of relegation and says it was a fair result against the Naturena-based outfit.

“A point will take us somewhere, but looking at ourselves, I think we fought. Chiefs were not sitting back, they came (hard at us) and I think it was a fair result looking at the situation we are in and the way we played.

“We need to fight (in the remaining games), we don’t have to go back. Each and every game will be a must win so that we can get out of the situation that we are in.”

Gallants are in 15th place on the log with 24 points after 25 games, level with Maritzburg United, who are occupying the bottom spot.
