Cam Thomas scores 46 points in Nets’ final game before 76ers playoff matchup

The Nets’ regular-season finale had a low-pressure Summer League vibe.

But Cam Thomas did his best to make it interesting.

Brooklyn sat a staggering nine players and lost to an almost-as-threadbare Philadelphia squad 134-105.

But Thomas tried his best to pull out a win single-handedly.

Given the greenest of green lights, Thomas poured in 46 points on 16 of 29 shooting and 6 of 8 from behind the arc.

He fell one shy of his career-high of 47.

Brooklyn was already locked into sixth in the Eastern Conference, and will face the same third-seeded 76ers team in the first round of the playoffs next weekend.

Thomas put on a show before a sellout crowd of 17,732 that included former Nets (and Sixers) legend Julius Erving, tennis icon Billie Jean King (seated next to team co-owner Clara Wu Tsai) and actor Bobby Cannavale.

But, in the fourth quarter, Philadelphia doubled the ball out of Thomas’ hands to hold him to just four points over the final 12 minutes and the Nets (45-37) had no other answers.

The Nets shot just 42.2 percent from the floor with RaiQuan Gray — just signed to a two-way deal — scoring 16 points with nine boards and seven assists in his NBA debut.

The Sixers sat their top seven players.

Sunday marked Thomas’ fourth 40-point game, with the other three famously coming consecutively in a white-hot stretch from Feb. 4-7.

He’s just the fifth player in the Nets’ NBA history to notch at least four 40-point games in a season, and the only players in the league with more since Feb. 1 are Donovan Mitchell (with eight) and Damian Lillard (with seven).

Thomas helped Brooklyn nearly erase a 20-point deficit, getting within 97-92 on his and-one with 35.8 seconds left in the third quarter.

He had 42 points as the Nets entered the fourth down 100-92, but essentially playing just seven men they ran out of gas down the stretch.

The Nets were without starters Nic Claxton, Cam Johnson, Spencer Dinwiddie and Dorian Finney-Smith, as well as backups Joe Harris, Royce O’Neale, Seth Curry, Edmond Sumner and injured Ben Simmons.

Mikal Bridges kept his ironman streak going by starting the game — the first NBA player to log 83 appearances in a season since 2014-15 — but he committed a take foul just four seconds in and was immediately subbed off.
