Jamie Carragher claims Newcastle star would be ‘fantastic’ for Man Utd
Isak has enjoyed a promising start to his career at St James’ Park, scoring six goals in 11 Premier League appearances following a £60m move from Real Sociedad last summer.
Despite not getting on the scoresheet on Sunday, the Sweden international impressed in Newcastle’s crucial 2-0 victory over Manchester United as Eddie Howe’s side boosted their top-four chances in a repeat of the EFL Cup final.
Former Liverpool and England defender Carragher believes Newcastle have a ‘special’ talent in Isak and says he ‘loves’ watching the 23-year-old in action.
Carragher even believes Isak would thrive at Manchester United, who are expected to sign a new striker this summer after releasing Cristiano Ronaldo earlier in the season and relying on Wout Weghorst since January.
‘I love him, I love watching him play,’ Sky Sports pundit Carragher said of Isak.
‘I mean, Manchester United need a centre-forward, you look at him and I think he would be absolutely fantastic for Man United.
‘They could have got him at the start of the season. When I first saw him at Anfield, I think it was his first appearance, he looked outstanding and eclectic.
‘Anybody who tells you that centre-forward play is all about scoring goals is just living in a dream world. Centre-forwards also have to be able to press in the modern game and he can do that.
‘They have to press. They have to have pace. Energy, score goals and be involved in the build-up play.
‘I just love the energy and aggression he’s got. Honestly, I think he’s absolutely fantastic. I think Newcastle have a special, special centre-forward.’
Newcastle’s victory on Sunday saw them leapfrog Manchester United in the Premier League table. The Magpies are third with 11 games remaining.
