RAG Week 2023! | Julia Honchar, St Bede’s School
All students in the school are given the opportunity to design the logo for RAG week each year, usually a few months prior! Each design is unique in their own way, and once again projects the skills that many of the students have.
Each RAG week begins with the RAG fayre – this happens on the Friday before RAG week. The Sixth Form tutor groups each host a stall, selling anything of their choice. This could be a raffle for sweets, or simply selling treats like cupcakes and canned drinks! Some of the Sixth Formers were also selling white t-shirts and blue tote bags with this year’s logo.
During the week, the Sixth Formers have their own themes that they get to dress up as, for example, ‘pajama day’, or even ‘anything but a bag’, where students needed to carry their things for the day in anything other than what they’d usually use! They also provided students in both KS3 and KS4/5 with different fun events during their lunchtimes. The events were as followed:
Monday – KS3 & KS4/5 – Would I Lie to You?
Tuesday – KS4/5 only – Taskmaster
Wednesday – KS3 only – Bede’s Got Talent
Thursday – KS4/5 only – Lip Sync Battle
Friday – KS3 & KS4/5 – RAG Showcase
On the final day of RAG week, the whole school had the opportunity to dress up as characters from specific films. Each year group was provided with a different film, as well as a specific colour that they could dress up in if they decided not to dress up. For example, Year 10 could dress up as any character from any Disney film, or they could wear anything blue instead. It was interesting seeing people in their different costumes, with other students trying to guess who they were!
It seems that this year’s RAG week was, once again, a success, and students will definitely be looking forward to the next one.
