People are blending spaghetti on TikTok to make ‘pasta dough’

Like most great things in life, fresh pasta requires time, effort, and a whole lot of patience.

There’s mixing, rolling, shaping and more involved – so it’s understandable that most of us opt for the time-saving dry variety.

However, people on TikTok have shared a ‘cheat’s hack’ to making ‘fresh pasta’ – although many have highlighted its overcomplicated nature.

The trick in question? Blending dried pasta to make something resembling the fresh kind.

If you read that twice, you’re not alone – but it’s exactly what it says on the tin: blitzing one type of pasta to make another.

Users are whizzing up dried spaghetti into a grainy flour-like texture, then using this as the base for their fresh pasta.

A video posted by @foodsfuns3 shows her putting spaghetti into a blender, then tipping it out onto a work surface, forming a well in the mixture and cracking an egg into it – just how you would with regular pasta dough.

She then kneads it into a dough, rolls it out and uses a pasta cutter to make tagliatelle strands.

It goes without saying that this can’t really be classified as a ‘hack’ as, on the whole, it’s not really saving time or energy – especially as dried pasta can just be used on its own.

And while the blitzed pasta looks like flour, it’s actually not the same – as it doesn’t have the same compounds as 00 (pasta) flour.

But, just to be certain, we gave it a go ourselves…

Here’s our verdict…

‘In short, it’s an awful lot of effort for something that tastes pretty rank.

‘I ended up having to cook for 10 minutes – and dried pasta would have been nicer and easier.

‘The first attempt wasn’t ground enough, so I had to start again – and it’s just so thick using a rolling pin. You need a machine.

‘If you want fresh pasta – go to restaurant, buy fresh or make it from scratch.

‘This TikTok method isn’t the way to do it. It’s an absolute waste of time.

‘Also, you have to use a lot of pasta to make a much smaller amount, so isn’t cost-effective – especially during cost of living crisis.’
