Strictly’s Shirley Ballas falls down stairs after recreating Aladdin scene
Strictly Come Dancing’s Shirley Ballas didn’t quite get the Disney moment she dreamed of after sliding down a staircase while recreating a scene from Aladdin.
The reality TV show judge and professional dancer was performing a routine to A Whole New World with friend Nathan Grundy and while things went off without a hitch to begin with as they role-played Aladdin and Jasmine, a decision to test out a magic carpet messed it all up.
After dancing around at the bottom of a staircase, Shirley, 62, made her way up as a shirtless Nathan tried to offer her flowers and followed behind with the carpet they had just been doing the routine on.
They soon appeared atop the carpet on the landing, and while some magical cloud effects set the mood, their attempts to make their way down soon went haywire.
After throwing petals down to the person filming, Shirley then grabbed hold of Nathan as he pushed off and started their descent.
While they kept their characters up as they made their way down, they hit a snag and Shirley managed to find herself toppling over her friend and rolling down the rest of the staircase.
It doesn’t appear she hurt herself though, with the pair in hysterics as Nathan slid down to check on her as she lay on her back laughing.
Captioning the clip ‘When your magic carpet doesn’t fly and your tikky tokky doesn’t quite go to plan’, Shirley provided some light entertainment, and probably a warning for others to not try this at home too.
It’s been a big week for Shirley after she watched on as her son, Dancing with the Stars US professional dancer Mark Ballas, announced his retirement from the series.
The three-time Mirrorball trophy winner, who is the son of Shirley and Mark ‘Corky’ Ballas, first joined the show in 2007, but announced on Monday he would be stepping away.
Over his 20 seasons on the show Mark had been paired up with plenty of famous faces, including Kim Kardashian, Melissa Joan Hart, Shannon Doherty, Kristin Cavallari and Charli D’Amelio, who he won the last season with.
In a statement to Metro.co.uk Shirley said his body of work on the series was ‘nothing short of brilliant’.
She added: ‘I’m so excited for this next chapter in his life and looking forward to seeing where he goes next.’
Strictly Come Dancing is streaming on BBC iPlayer.
