Bored And Hungry NFT Restaurant Opens In Makati
The United States’ first NFT-themed restaurant, Bored and Hungry, opened its first Asia branch at The Grid Food Market, Makati City.
It first had a pop-up location at the Marriott Hotel in November 2022 to promote Philippine Blockchain Week. Then, it opened at The Grid for a few days.
Bored and Hungry is a burger restaurant that features Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) characters as a theme.
How did the Bored And Hungry Restaurant start?
The first thing you’ll notice about the fast food place is its unique NFT theme. It features cartoon monkeys from the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT art.
NFTs or non-fungible tokens record the ownership of physical and digital objects using a decentralized computer network called a blockchain.
Co-owner Andy Nguyen bought three, giving him the intellectual property rights to the art pieces. Consequently, he was able to start a restaurant around the NFTs.
He planned the fast food joint as a three-month pop-up, but it became an instant hit. Bored and Hungry attracted roughly 1,500 customers on its first day.
As a result, it became a permanent establishment in Long Beach, California. The restaurant attributes its monumental success to the rising popularity of NFTs.
More people worldwide are trying to implement real-world applications of non-fungible tokens. That was why most of the first-day diners were enthusiasts of such technology.
As mentioned, NFTs run on blockchains. However, these decentralized computer networks also serve as payment systems that use cryptocurrencies.
That is why Bored and Hungry restaurants in the US accept cryptocurrencies, especially Ethereum and ApeCoin. Both are important for Bored Ape NFTs.
Last week, the world’s first-ever NFT-themed restaurant opened its doors in the Philippines. As a result, the country hosts the first Bored and Hungry branch in Asia.
Behind the NFT theme, Bored and Hungry is a great burger place. The Philippine branch serves a specially crafted menu by Chef Golda Valladares and Fernando Valladares.
The duo is responsible for Trill Burgers, dubbed the “Best Burger in America 2022” by Good Morning America. As a result, expect great patty-and-bun combos from Bored and Hungry.
For example, its signature smashed burger is the Bored OG Burger (₱395), and you could add fries with the OG Burger Combo (₱595).
Conclusion
The NFT-themed Bored and Hungry restaurant opened its first Asian branch in the Philippines, and it is here to stay.
The 2022 Global Crypto Adoption Index ranks the Philippines in second place. In response, dining at Bored and Hungry could make you informed and ready for the country’s digitalization.
