Bright Horizons Crouch End Fields Day Nursery began operating again last Thursday (March 9) after it was forced to temporarily close for nearly two weeks.
Education watchdog Ofsted previously told the Ham&High that the nursery was suspended because of “concerns over their ability to keep children safe”.
According to a new Ofsted report, the investigation began after Bright Horizons alerted it on February 16 to a “significant event”. The Ham&High has asked when this took place.
After further issues were raised, Ofsted intervened and closed the nursery as inspectors believed “children may be at risk of harm”.
Then, following a visit on March 2 to review information, it was found that the nursery was still not meeting some safety requirements.
While Ofsted has not elaborated on what the matter was that led to the suspension, the watchdog said: “On March 8, 2023, we lifted the suspension because the provider took appropriate action to deal with the matter that led to the suspension.
“We are satisfied that the identified risk of harm to children has been removed. The provider is still registered with Ofsted.”
However Bright Horizons has now received a welfare requirement notice for mandatory actions by April 6.
This includes ensuring the designated safeguarding leads (DSL) are fully aware of their responsibilities.
It adds the nursery must “ensure all staff are trained in safeguarding and child protection procedures, in particular when dealing with allegations against staff, and unexplained injuries”.
The notice also requires staff have “purposeful supervision” and that the nursery develops the roles of the key person for children to form strong relationships with their named carers.
Bright Horizons confirmed that it began to operate again after March 9.
