Emma Watson inspiring girls by Thea Crake, Tolworth Girls School
On the 8th of March it was International Women’s day. A day to appreciate and celebrate the powerful women around you. In honour of that I am going to write about a woman that had inspired me and many other girls to become confident in our gender.
Emma Watson, an actor, model and activist, was appointed UN women goodwill ambassador in July of 2014. She has been part of campaigns not only trying to get girls to join but boys too, to promote gender equality. She encourages all genders to join for gender equality, which is teaching young girls and boys all over the world to treat everyone equally.
At 24 years old, Emma Watson was involved in the promotion of girl’s education and visited Bangladesh and Zambia. She worked as an ambassador for Camfed international, which is an organisation that invest in girls and women in the poorest areas of Africa, to allow them for educations. Her kind actions have inspired me to help others in need around me and to stand up for my beliefs.
Emma Watson gives confidence to me and many other young girls living through a generation of gender inequality. She speaks out on her views with passion and dignity even though to some they can be controversial. Emma Watson’s speeches motivate gender equality all around the world and can be very heart felt to many powerful women feeling vulnerable and weak. Her speeches speak out for many who can’t and are unable to use their own voices.
Although Emma Watson has deep meaning behind every word in all of her speeches. These are so important quotes that have stood out to me:
“I think it is right that women be involved on my behalf in the policies and decisions that will affect my life. I think that it is right that socially, I am afforded the same respect as men.”
“Feeling beautiful has nothing to do with what you look like, I promise.”
“Feminism by definition is the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. It is the theory of political, economic and social equality of the sexes.”
“I invite you to step forward, to be seen and to ask yourself, “If not me, who? If not now, when?”
