KBL: Rhenz Abando finds rhythm in Anyang win, trumps RJ Abarrientos’s Ulsan
MANILA, Philippines—Rhenz Abando slowly got his groove back in Anyang KGC’s 95-83 win against the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus in the Korean Basketball League at Anyang Gymnasium on Saturday.
In 16 minutes of play, Abando finished with six points, a block and a steal. Omari Spellman’s double-double more than made up for Abando’s lack of scoring with 27 points and 14 rebounds for Anyang to improve to a 30-11 record.
Abando is just returning back to action after being sidelined since participating in the All-Star festivities.
RJ Abarrientos, on the other hand, finished with 10 points built on two triples to go along with a team-high five assists and two rebounds for the Mobis Phoebus, who dropped to 24-17.
SJ Belangel and the Daegu KOGAS Pegasus, meanwhile, bowed to the Seoul SK Knights, 89-85, at Jamsil Students’ Gymnasium.
Belangel played 28 minutes for Daegua and produced 10 markers, four dimes, three boards and two steals but the KOGAS Pegasus fell to a 13-26 card.
The SK Knights, meanwhile, jumped to the third seed over Ulsan with a 23-16 slate.
On Friday, Justin Gutang made a huge impact in the Changwon LG Sakers’ 96-78 blowout win against the Seoul Samsung Thunders at Jamsil Arena.
Gutang played for 21 minutes, registering 10 markers, three assists, two steals and a board to help Changwon improve to 26-14.
In another game, Dave Ildefonso was not fielded in Suwon KT Sonicboom’s 83-67 loss to the Goyang Carrot Jumpers.
Suwon dropped to a 17-23 record, just barely holding the seventh seed behind the 16-23-dealt Wonju DB Promy.
