I’m horrified after ‘car cannibals’ destroyed my parked vehicle
A WOMAN was left in shock after ‘car cannibals’ completely stripped her vehicle in barely two hours while she was at a gig.
Rebecca Scotland, 27, had been enjoying her night out – heading to a gig at the O2 Academy in Birmingham for about two and a half hours.
But the woman was horrified when she returned to the car to find thieves had completely stripped the front of her Citroen C1.
The thieves had smashed the windows to open the bonnet – ripping out the engine.
Speaking to BBC Radio Derby, Rebecca Scotland said: “It turned out that the front exterior had been stripped from it.
“The bonnet, headlights, bumper and a smashed window as well, so they could get the bonnet open.
“I thought the car looked a bit funny. I thought it was the lighting.
“It’s my first car, my baby. I think one of the reasons I’m so devastated is that I’m still paying for it till I’m 30, and I turn 28 next month.”
Rebecca’s insurance paid for repairs after the theft, which took place in November.
She said: “You’d think they’d be going for the more expensive cars but they seem to be just picking on what’s popular.”
More than 100 suspects have been arrested by the West Midlands Police in an effort to crack down on vehicle crimes.
A spokesperson said: “We created the specialist Vehicle Crime Taskforce to stop thieves who have not only caused huge inconvenience but risked livelihoods across the region.
“Since the team launched in September, it has made just over 100 arrests up to the start of December, with just under 50 charged with criminal offences.
“This has seen jail sentences handed out and others who are awaiting sentencing.”
According to Insurance Edge, nearly 102,000 vehicles were stolen in England and Wales in 2021.
