Painkiller Jane Returns With a Murderers’ Row of Variant Covers

Jimmy Palmiotti’s super vigilante makes her way back into print with Painkiller Jane: Heartbreaker, an upcoming one-shot with several variant covers.

Jimmy Palmiotti’s Painkiller Jane series comes roaring back in a new Kickstarter series, sporting variant covers from a slew of top-notch artists.

The current publisher of the comic, PaperFilms, announced the return of the superhero vigilante in her next title, Painkiller Jane: Heartbreaker. With the upcoming release, readers can expect variant covers from Bill Sienkiewicz, JG Jones, Josh Burns, Amanda Conner, Jennifer Van Damsel and Dave Johnson. Cover art was released along with story details as part of a Kickstarter campaign for the one-shot volume.

Created in 1995 by Palmiotti and Joe Quesada, Painkiller Jane has appeared alongside the Punisher, Vampirella and Hellboy, among others. The self-healing ex-cop has been the subject of a 2005 movie and subsequent TV show on the Sci-Fi Channel, with Jessica Chastain having reportedly signed on to portray her in another project.

After starting at Event Comics and moving on to Dynamite Entertainment, followed by Marvel’s Icon imprint and finally PaperFilms, Palmiotti (Harley Quinn, Painkiller Jane, Marvel Knights) has been the sole writer of the character since parting ways with Event. He teams up with artist Romina Moranelli (Sex and Violence, Glarien) and designer John J. Hill (Rage, Painkiller Jane, Sex & Violence, Pop Kill, Crossover) for Heartbreaker “to present an action packed adventure of Painkiller Jane teaming up with a surprise co-star from her past to deliver a special package.”

The Painkiller Jane: Heartbreaker Kickstarter launches at 9 a.m. ET on Oct. 5.
