You’re holding your iPhone wrong – 4 ways to make using yours more comfortable
IF you’re using a rather large iPhone with one hand you’re probably making life much harder than it needs to be.
Using two hands isn’t always practical and big beasts like the iPhone 14 Pro Max are difficult to use with just one.
But thankfully there are some iOS settings you can change which make one-handed use with an iPhone much simpler.
Try these.
One handed keyboard
Apple has a special keyboard adapted specifically for those using one hand.
It’s designed to keep buttons closer together when typing words out.
The keyboard is shrunk down in size and can be pinned to your preferred side.
To turn it on, go to Settings, then General.
Find Keyboard, and switch One-Handed Keyboard on.
Display zoom
It’s trickier to tap things when it’s small on an iPhone.

You could switch on display zoom to make things appear a tad larger – that way they’re easier to select.
To activate it, go to Settings then Display & Brightness.
Scroll down until you see Display Zoom.
Tick Larger Text, then Done.
It’ll ask you to confirm one last time before changing over.
Back tap
Special shortcuts also make one-handed use that bit simpler.
One worth looking at is the hidden back tap button.
This means that when you double or triple tap the back of your iPhone it’ll do anything of your choosing, like opening WhatsApp or taking a screenshot.
You can turn back taps on by going to Settings, followed by Accessibility.
Go to Touch and scroll down to Back Tap.
Here you can decide your trigger actions and set them up.
Reachability
One of the problems with a big phone and one hand is reaching things right at the top – it’s near impossible.
So, Apple has a Reachability feature to deal with just that.
It cuts the screen height down by half so your thumb can easily tap anything without stretching too far.
To switch it on, just slide down along the bottom bit of your iPhone.
