Sony Pictures Worldwide and Toei Animation are developing live-action adaptation of the 1980s manga and anime series, Saint Seiya. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the live-action movie adaptation is titled Knights of the Zodiac.
Created by Masami Kurumada, Saint Seiya followed a group of warriors called The Saints who gathered their powers from the constellations. The Saints join forces to protect the reincarnated goddess Athena from other gods who want to take over the Earth.
Knights of the Zodiac cast features Mackenyu, Madison Iseman, Famke Janssen, Sean Bean, Diego Tinoco, Nick Stahl, and Mark Dacascos. Mackenyu will play Seiya, a street orphan and the lead character from the franchise. After he is awakened by the mysterious energy called Cosmo, Seiya embarks on a quest to obtain the ancient Greek armour of Pegasus and pick his side in a battle for the fate of Sienna, played by Iseman. Sienna is a young girl who struggles in controlling her powers. Bean plays Alman Kiddo, a mentor who recruits Seiya for the Knights order. Tinoco plays a man hired to kill Athena.
Tomasz Baginski, who has worked on Netflix’s The Witcher, will be directing Knights of the Zodiac. The project has been in development for several years and faced many production delays so far. Matt Stuecken and Josh Campbell have written the most recent drafts of Knights of the Zodiac. Marvel’s Shang-Chi and The Legend of Ten Rings fight coordinator Andy Cheng is the stunt coordinator and fight coordinator on the new movie. Knights of the Zodiac will tell the origin story of Seiya.
