Heroes, zeros from Jets’ loss to Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence was in total command
Heroes, zeros and the full blitz from the Jets’ 19-3 loss to the Jaguars.
Hero
The Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence was the far-superior QB, completing 20 of 31 for 229 yards and a 86.6 passer rating. He, too, rushed for 51 yards and a TD on seven carries. He looked in total command, getting rid of the ball quickly to offset the Jets’ pass rush.
Unsung hero
Jaguars running back Travis Etienne gashed the Jets and wore them out, rushing for 83 yards on 22 carries. Etienne carried the ball 17 times for 64 yards in the first half, when the Jags took complete control of the game.
Zero
Jets quarterback Zach Wilson was benched in the third quarter in favor of fourth-stringer Chris Streveler, who was on the active game-day roster for the first time as a Jet. Wilson completed 9 of 18 passes for 92 yards, an INT and a 41.1 rating. The team produced just three first downs with him in the game. He looked uncomfortable in the pocket and was inaccurate with his throws.
Key stat
20 How many more plays the Jaguars ran on offense in the first half than the Jets did (41-21).
Quote
“Just embarrassed, really. This was embarrassing. How we played, the product we put out there was just embarrassing.’’
— Jets cornerback D.J. Reed
