Meta will support 100 Indian developers to work on open-source project: Nick Clegg, president of global affairs

Speaking at the event, the company’s president of global affairs Nick Clegg said that it was through programs like these that the talent, insight and efforts of Indian developers would come to the fore. Clegg, who is the former vice president of the UK is on a week-long tour of India.

“The metaverse won’t be built by one company alone. Through programs like XR Open Source, we will support Indian developers working on these exciting technologies. With their talent, insight and effort, we hope to ensure the next generation of internet technologies are built in an open, collaborative and accessible way,” Clegg said.

Clegg, began his India tour on Monday meeting Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar and the two discussed the new Digital Personal Data Protection Bill and India’s growing role in the global digital landscape, sources said.
UK’s former deputy prime minister is also scheduled to meet Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and discuss the revised telecom Bill, as well as officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, later in the week.

He will also attend industry events where he will speak about Meta’s plans to build a metaverse as well as launch a programme to boost India’s contribution towards the metaverse.

During the trip, Clegg is also scheduled to meet academicians to understand India’s evolving role in the technology space as well as address town hall meetings where he will meet Meta India employees.
