Armie Hammer’s father dies from cancer aged 67

Michael Armand Hammer, the father of Hollywood actor Armie Hammer, died last week from cancer aged 67. A family source released the news in a statement, saying: “Michael Hammer has passed away after a long, hard fight with cancer.”

The businessman worked in investment banking before taking over family firm Occidental Petroleum, founded by his grandfather Armand Hammer in 1920.

He inherited a $40million (£33.6million) fortune from his entrepreneurial grandfather, who passed away in 1990

A representative for the family confirmed the news of Mr Hammer Snr’s death, four months after his son Armie, 36, had travelled back to Los Angeles from the Cayman Islands where sources claim he was selling timeshares at a resort.

The source added the actor “needs the money” after his father “won’t help him anymore and he’s been cut off”.

A lawyer for the younger Mr Hammer would not confirm to PEOPLE magazine whether the actor was indeed selling timeshares but said “it’s s****y that the media seems to be shaming him for having a ‘normal job’.”

Armie Hammer checked into rehab in 2021 seeking treatment for drug, alcohol and sex addictions, with his wife of 10 years Elizabeth Chambers filing for divorce in July 2020.

The actor was faced with allegations of inappropriate conduct after messages allegedly from him detailing explicitly violent sexual fantasies, including cannibalistic fetishes, were leaked online.

Insiders also claimed the businessman had the “mindset of a teenage boy”, reported the Daily Mail.

Mr Hammer is survived by his wife Misty, his son Armie and his younger son Viktor, 34.

He also leaves behind an ex-wife in Dru Ann Mobley, Armie’s and Viktor’s mother, whom he divorced in 2012 after 27 years of marriage.
