A SURVEY has revealed the shocking number of drivers who admit to having bad habits behind the wheel.
The study revealed that 90% drivers of UK drivers admitted there are things they were taught in their driving lessons that they do not remember now.
Carried out by Cobra, the study also showed that 80% of the motorists asked said they would fail their test if they had to do it again today.
Some 39% of drivers admitted steering one-handed, 34% confessed to routinely driving too fast and 26% fiddle with the radio while they should be concentrating on the road ahead.
A quarter of them said they do not check their mirrors and 15% do not indicate when turning left or right.
Worryingly, 82% confirmed that they have recently made a mistake on the road that could have led to an accident.
With regards to parking, one in four drivers can’t parallel park and 19% have issues when they try to reverse into space.
A relatively low 9% find it impossible to do a three-point turn and 12% struggle to park within the lines of a standard parking bay.
Researchers also tested drivers by showing them a series of standard road signs; 29% of them were unable to identify a no-waiting sign, while 12% were baffled by the national speed limit marker.
One in four drivers thinks that a dashcam makes them feel safer driver and 31% believe that all drivers should have a dashcam on their vehicle.
A spokesperson for dashcam experts Cobra said: “This research highlights just how relaxed drivers have become, picking up bad habits and lacking in awareness.
“We want to promote road safety, and we hope this research will encourage drivers to consider a dash cam in their vehicle as a simple step to achieve this”.
