God of War: Ragnarok Creates New Record for the Franchise through Day 1 Sales; PlayStation All-Star Battle Royale made Canon Through New Conversation in the Game

God of War: Ragnarok is one of the most exciting releases of 2022, and it recently bagged the most nominations at The Game Awards 2022.

God of War: Ragnarok was one of the most anticipated titles of 2022, and it did not disappoint. As reported by GameIndustry.Biz, the game is well on its way to top the UK charts. Almost all God of War titles, other than the first and God of War: Ascension, have debuted at the No. 1 spot on the UK charts.

God of War 2018 held the title for the best seller for the franchise, as it grossed the highest numbers in Week 1 and lifetime sales for the franchise. God of War: Ragnarok on the other hand has just arrived and it has already obliterated many of the previous records.

God of War: Ragnarok’s Day 1 Sales were higher than full week launch sales for any other title in the franchise. It is well on its way to becoming the biggest God of War title ever. On top of that, 55% sales of PlayStation 5 consoles in this week have come through the God of War: Ragnarok PlayStation 5 Bundle.

On the topic of God of War: Ragnarok, an interesting detail has been spotted by Polygon. In an interesting turn of events, it seems a conversation between Kratos and Mimir in the new title has made the events of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale canon. This game was Sony’s answer to Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros, and it not only included Kratos but his father Zeus as well. Check out the conversation below:

Mimir: Brother, I’ve heard my share of stories about your homeland. But I’d also heard that you once fought in a tournament.

Kratos: I fought in many contests.

Mimir: But this particular one… I heard you did battle with beasts, scoundrels, princesses, the undead, automatons, and… history’s greatest musician. That’s not… that’s not true, is it?

Kratos: I would not speak of this.

It was the mention of “battle with beasts, scoundrels, princesses, the undead, automatons, and… history’s greatest musician”, that caught everyone’s attention, as PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale had every single type of character. Ratchet could be considered a beast, Fat Princess was a princess, Sir Daniel Frotesque the undead and PaRappa the Rapper probably the history’s greatest musician.

Some players also felt that this could be a reference to Mortal Kombat 9, as the same type of enemies were prevalent in that title too. Reptile and Kano could be the beast and scoundrel, Scorpion was obviously undead, Kitana was the princess, and Sektor and Cyrax were the automatons. The only one remaining was history’s greatest musician, and although it is a stretch, Rain could be considered to be the musician.

We don’t know for sure which crossover Kratos might be referencing too, and this secret rests with him. But, the fact that these events have been referenced in the latest titles is exciting enough for the players.
