Bake Off’s first vegan star Freya Cox quits Facebook after being trolled for horse riding

Freya Cox is joining this year’s The Great British Bake-Off as the competition’s first vegan baker. However, before the show has even begun, the star has deleted her Facebook after cruel trolling.

Freya is a 19-year-old psychology student hoping to impress in this year’s Bake Off tent.

Ahead of joining the show, she shared the news on her Facebook page Freya Cox Eventing.

The student explained how she was planning on steering clear of all animal-based products in a series first.

Posting online, she wrote: “The secret is finally out!

One user named Megan End Bsl White wrote: “The problem people like myself are having is that yes, it’s great that someone is going onto a mainstream programme promoting vegan food but please don’t say you are passionate about ethics when you still ride horses.”

Another named Barbara Calvert added: “Freya Cox removing a pic is just covering it up, not changing the action, if you are still riding then you shouldn’t be calling yourself vegan, and you most definitely shouldn’t be going on TV calling yourself vegan.

“It’s no wonder people get confused over what veganism means, when the ethos is being continually watered down.”

However, others were quick to come to Freya’s defence, claiming that veganism means different things to different people.

A follower named Farhana Muquith wrote: “Not even an hour and some of your superiority complex kicked in. Damn, just be happy.”

While Marianne Leadbitter penned: “Wow, many congratulations and good luck to you.

“‘Awareness’ is always the first step and you’ve managed to grab yourself the spotlight and I’m so pleased for you, well done!

“I’m shocked at some of the comments on here, they’re shameful and unnecessary, can’t wait to watch you blow the others out the water.”

Freya has since deleted the Facebook page amid the comments.

The new series of Bake Off begins on Tuesday on Channel 4 at 8pm.
