Kate Middleton’s clever shoe trick that Meghan Markle now does too
Kate Middleton, as a working royal, has countless appearances to make and engagements to attend, so it’s no surprise she likes to keep her style interesting. Known for blending more casual and affordable high-street looks with high-fashion items and accessories that are more associated with royalty, the Princess of Wales’ dress sense has received plenty of praise from fans.
But when it comes to shoes, the Princess of Wales has an eye for the more upmarket options.
In her collection are brands such as Jimmy Choos, Rupert Sanderson’s, Gianvito Rossi and L.K. Bennett heels among others.
However, what fans of Kate’s style may not realise is that the Princess’ shoe size differs between all of these brands, and the reason is very relatable.
Kate buys her shoes in three different sizes, a five, a 5.5 and a six. Like many people across the country, the reason behind this is very simple: comfort.

The Princess’ size even varies from brand to brand, for example, her Jimmy Choo ‘vamp’ high-heeled sandals are a 5.5 but her Rupert Sanderson heels are actually an even smaller size five.
Meanwhile, for her L.K. Bennett ‘Agata’ sandals, Kate goes all the way up to a six, as was previously reported by Hello Magazine.
It’s likely that Kate sizes up her more strappy shoes and sandals as these are more likely to be used in warmer weather, so the bigger size avoids discomfort from more swollen feet.
Royal fashion expert, Miranda Holder said that she can tell the Princess wears her high heels “a little large”.

In a TikTok video, Miranda explained: “[This is] to make them last in comfort for the entire duration. So by making the straps a little looser and punching an extra hole is a great way to do this,” the fashion expert added.
This is a relatable tactic that Kate actually shares with her sister-in-law Meghan Markle. At engagements, if you look closely at Meghan’s heels, they can often be very obviously too big for her, no doubt in order to reduce blisters and rubbing at long events.
The Princess of Wales is regularly having her photograph taken, so her stylist, Natasha Archer, makes sure her outfits look flawless every single time.
The stunning mum-of-three also has another genius fashion tool that she never leaves the house without.

Miranda also said that Kate’s stylist will never go without a leather-hole punch.
It means that belts and shoes can be altered on the go, so they fit perfectly, she told The Sun.
The expert noted: “Like all of us, Kate’s weight can fluctuate a little, and her waist can get even tinier, so being able to punch the odd extra hole to ensure she is fully cinched in can be an invaluable move when achieving the perfect silhouette.
“Likewise if a shoe is particularly high (and let’s face it, Kate has a terrific shoe-drobe), having an extra hole in the shoe strap so it feels even more secure can make the difference between a wardrobe moment and a wardrobe malfunction.”
Amazon sells leather hole punch pliers for around £7.99. They are typically used for making holes for buckles, eyelets and rivets in shoes, belts, and bridles for horses.
Daena Borrowman, the Marketing Manager at jewellerybox told Express.co.uk some other style hacks that are followed by Kate Middleton.
She said: “Pennies or small weights are sewed into the hemlines of dresses to avoid them being blown up by a strong gust of British wind.
“Royal women are also discouraged from showing off their cleavage. In order to still wear bespoke dresses with daring necklines, the Princess of Wales has her evening gowns altered ever so slightly to keep with the rules, while her later mother-in-law, Princess Diana used to hold her clutch to her chest while exiting vehicles.”
