Bears vs. Vikings picks and analysis
The Vikings won their first two division games by 16 and four points, respectively, with Kirk Cousins throwing for at least 260 yards in both contests.
Chicago has alternated wins and losses through four weeks, but its bugaboos were too much to overcome against the Giants. The Bears allowed six sacks while surrendering 262 yards on the ground.
Vikings to cover -7.5
The Bears rank 32nd in the NFL with 183.3 rushing yards allowed per game, a trend that bodes well for Vikings feature back Dalvin Cook.
Still, the Chicago secondary figures to be in for an equally daunting challenge after Justin Jefferson snagged 10 receptions for 147 yards against New Orleans on 13 targets.
Jefferson has eclipsed 100 yards receiving in three of his four career games versus the Bears, and even as quarterback Kirk Cousins and Co. work out some kinks, Jefferson may be in line to keep that trend rolling.
Put simply, the Vikings boast more firepower than the Bears, who hope to see better things from second-year signal-caller Justin Fields. Fields had a season-best 11 completions and 174 yards through the air against the Giants, but having left guard Cody Whitehair (knee) land on injured reserve this week won’t do any favors for Fields’ protection. Nor a running game that has seen a spark from Khalil Herbert as David Montgomery contends with an ankle injury.
Our Pick: Vikings to cover -7.5, @ -110 via BetMGM
Dalvin Cook over 18.5 rushing attempts
Well-run territory here, but the Bears have been brutal against the run. Vikings running back Dalvin Cook is averaging 5 yards per carry in three home games, a split that includes his 76 yards on 20 carries across the pond.
Cook has an average of 111 yards per game against the Bears in the past four head-to-head meetings.
He gained 96 yards on 17 carries and scored a touchdown in his most recent appearance at U.S. Bank Stadium in Week 3. Considering the Bears’ woes against the run, look for Cook to get plenty of totes in this one.
Our Pick: Dalvin Cook over 18.5 rushing attempts, @ + 100 via BetMGM
Betting on the NFL?
Greg Joseph under 1.5 field goals made (+100)
Vikings kicker Greg Joseph connected on field goals of 28, 36, 24, 46 and 47 yards in London en route to earning plaudits as NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
He won’t have a chance at a repeat performance if the Vikings can finish drives.
Given the Bears’ shoddy defense of late and question marks in the secondary — Jaylon Johnson started the week with an illness after missing the past two games due to injury — expect the Minnesota attack to visit the end zone, not stall shy of it.
Our Pick: Greg Joseph under 1.5 field goals made, @ +100 via BetMGM
