Scarlett Moffat more ‘mindful’ on social media after attempted kidnapping ordeal
The Gogglebox star was left shaken in early September when a man tried to get her to go home with him from King’s Cross station in London.
A tearful Scarlett shared with her followers after the incident that he had been waiting for her, and asked several times if she was going with him.
After rejecting the man’s advances, Scarlett claimed the man then followed her but luckily staff at LNER noticed the incident and beckoned the television personality over, whom Scarlett later thanked after they walked her home.
Speaking in detail about the harrowing events for the first time, the I’m A Celebrity star wants to remind people that what is posted on social media is often in ‘real time,’ as she had already let her followers know at the time that she was in that station.
‘I think the reason that I posted that is because I think sometimes we forget that when we post in real time, that’s real life and I never do that normally,’ she told Mail Online.
‘If I go out for food, as soon as I get back in the house, I’ll post a picture of my food, whereas that day I didn’t. I actually posted in real time.’
She added: ‘In a way, pleased that it happened because it reminded us of how important it is to be mindful of what you’re posting on social media.’
Scarlett continued to say she gets ‘a lot of messages’ from people who post pictures on social media as a family before leaving the house, ‘forgetting that people know the house is empty.’
‘I’m just reminding people to be cautious of what they’re posting because social media is a really fun place and it should be like that and we should be able to share experiences and all of that stuff, but yeah, we just need to be careful, really,’ the TV presenter said.
Proceeding to praise the members of staff who were on hand to help her following her frightening ordeal, Scarlett says she now always asks how the guards are when she gets on a train, because they are ‘little legends.’
‘But thanks to them, it was alright so I’m really happy that they were there. They were just little diamonds, they actually walked me all the way to my hotel.
‘They were like, “We’re not just doing this because you’re off the telly,” and I was like, “I know!” because I’ve seen them do things for loads of people at the train stations so I think that’s why it’s important that they’re there.’
Scarlett has long been an advocate for speaking about mental health and opening up about your problems, also being open about the online trolling she’s received throughout her career.
The Geordie star recently admitted that, while it wasn’t easy to tell someone how bad it made her feel, asking for help was the ‘best thing I ever did.’
‘In a time when I felt really weak, it was the strongest thing I could have done, to ask for help,’ she said.
