The Weeknd abruptly stops sold-out concert at SoFi Stadium
The Weeknd was forced to end his sold-out concert at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles after losing his voice – only three songs into the show.
The four-time Grammy winner abruptly stopped singing in the middle of his hit song “Can’t Feel My Face” and exited the stage.
The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, then walked back out on stage as another song began and stopped the show, telling fans he lost his voice and couldn’t finish the performance.
Disappointed fans filled the roughly 70,000-seat stadium with their jeers.
“You’ll get your money back,” he assured the disappointed audience. “But I’ll do a show real soon for you guys.”
Before he left the stage, the singer took another moment to console the crowd.
“You know how much this kills me right now. I’m sorry. I love you so much.” He said before making his final exit to an eruption of cheers.
The Weeknd was playing the final show of a back-to-back performance at SoFi Stadium as part of his “After Hours Til Dawn Tour.” He had postponed his tour last year in an effort to perform at stadium venues around the country.
“The Hills” singer then took to social media to double down on his apology for exiting the show so early.
“My voice went out during the first song and I’m devastated. Felt it go and my heart dropped. My deepest apologies to my fans here. I promise I’ll make it up to you with a new date.” The singer posted to Twitter.
It’s unclear what condition the critically acclaimed singer’s vocal problems are, but as he spoke to the crowd, there was a raspiness to his voice.
The Weeknd is scheduled to perform in Toronto on Sept. 22 and Sept. 23, according to the singer’s website.
No announcement has been made yet about a timeframe for a makeup concert.
