Until Dawn Creator Says Development On Next Game Has Begun

In a recent interview with VGC, the Studio Director for Supermassive Games, Will Byles, revealed that work has already begun on a new horror game.

Supermassive are best known for their interactive horror games such as Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures Anthology, and The Quarry. The latter was only released earlier this year, but Byles has confirmed that the studio intend on continuing the huge success of their horror titles and have already started working on a new project.

“We’ve started working on [the next game]”, Byles said in the interview. He went on to state that “it’s the same sort of horror genre, we’re sticking to that. It’s equivalent in size to The Quarry… and that’s about as much as I can say without giving too much away.”

Although Byles clearly couldn’t go into too much detail about the studios next project, he did also confirm when it’s likely to release. When asked what the turnaround time for the new game would be, specifically if it would be the same seven-year gap between Until Dawn and The Quarry, Byles said “No, it certainly won’t be the seven years it took between Until Dawn, it will be 2025, or maybe 2026.”

Fans can still expect the classic horror that Supermassive has become known for, but the Studio Director did state that it will be “a bit of a diversion” from the hundreds of horror variants seen in The Dark Pictures Anthology. However, Byles says that it’s still “very much classic horror”.

Earlier this year, Supermassive Games were acquired by Nordisk Games. The developers announced that Nordisk will enhance their vision for their ambitious growth strategy. CEO of Nordisk Games, Mikkel Weider, said that “In acquiring 100% of the studio we’ll be able to increase our support to the team, and most importantly, continue the great working relationship we have with them”.

It’s possible that the quick turnaround from The Quarry to the studio’s next project is due to their recent acquisition and additional support by Nordisk Games. But, fans will still have a few years to wait until any further details are revealed.
