Man splits opinion after slamming girlfriend for eating lasagne on plane

A MAN has slammed his girlfriend after she bought a whole lasagne onto a plane – but not everyone agrees with him.

The passenger explained how his girlfriend’s meal choice received comments from flight attendants who said that everyone could smell the food.

The man took this as an indication that his partner should stop eating, but she didn’t agree and carried on with her meal.

The boyfriend wrote about the incident on Reddit to see if others thought he was in the wrong.

He said: “My girlfriend ordered lasagna in the airport terminal right before boarding, knowing we didn’t have time to eat it before we boarded.

“We boarded right after she received her food. After we sat down, before taking off, she opened it up and started eating.

“I didn’t say anything at first, but then a flight attendant approached and said in an informative way (i.e., not overly positive or negative), ‘oh you’re the person eating lasagna. We can smell it throughout the whole plane’. And then she left us.”

He said he “suggested she not eat it on the plane” because of the comment as other passengers may not like the smell.

He finished by saying: “Girlfriend put up a bit of a fuss and didn’t want to put it away at which point I told her it was likely ruining other people’s flight experience having to smell her food.

“She didn’t take kindly to those words.”

Some people stuck up for the woman, saying the man was making too much of a big deal out of the situation.

One wrote: “Where was she supposed to put it where it wouldn’t smell? Eating it was the fastest way of removing the issue.”

Another said: “Airlines constantly serve pasta or lasagna on flights. It’s fine and you’re overreacting”

However, others were on the boyfriend’s side, saying that she was being inconsiderate of other passengers.

One said: “It was still a pretty bad/dumb decision on her part. Who orders lasagna to carry onto a plane?”

A second wrote: “You were being considerate and trying to make your girlfriend aware of a social cue she was either missing or ignoring.”

Flight attendant Shanie Peralta has previously spoken of the problems smelly food can have on board a flight, saying the majority of people don’t think they have done anything wrong when bringing offending food on board.

However, food can make the cabin smell “immediately” and permeates the entire cabin pretty quickly, making it difficult for everyone on the plane.

Elsewhere, writer Natalie Compton shared her own worst story after she brought a simple chicken wrap.

She said that the “potent aroma” of garlic was quickly spread through the recycled air of the cabin, ruining the flight for everyone.

This is why food doesn’t always taste great onboard planes.
