Rio Ferdinand warns Arsenal fans ‘don’t go overboard’ about new signing
Arsenal fans must resist going ‘overboard’ about Gabriel Jesus because the likes of Erling Haaland are still better than the Brazilian.
That’s according to Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, who says Arsenal fans have a tendency of overhyping players.
Jesus has made a brilliant start to life at the Emirates since his £45million arrival from Manchester City earlier in the summer.
The Brazil forward has scored twice during the Gunners’ 100% start to the Premier League season but his performances have been even more impressive, with Jesus looking a sharper version of the player we saw at the Etihad.
Arsenal fans were accused by Richard Keys of ‘overcelebrating’ their 2-1 win against Fulham on Saturday, which has understandably annoyed Gooners.
But Ferdinand says Arsenal fans do have a tendency of ‘going overboard’ and he’s warned them not to do the same with Jesus after his ‘unreal’ start at the club.
‘I think that Jesus’s impact has been unreal,’ Ferdinand said on FIVE.
‘I think that he has been a fantastic signing, an absolute major signing for Arsenal, but please don’t go overboard like all Arsenal fans do.
‘When you have got [Erling] Haaland banging in a hat-trick at the weekend and you are going, ‘Oh, Jesus is overshadowing him still’, what are you talking about?’
Haaland arrived as Jesus’ replacement at the Etihad and the Norwegian superstar has made a sensational start at the club.
The former Dortmund ace has netted six times in five matches for City, including a hat-trick in a 4-2 comeback against Crystal Palace last weekend.
