17k commerce seats still vacant in GU – Times of India

At the end of the three online and ongoing offline rounds of admissions in Gujarat University affiliated commerce colleges, 23,669 students have been allotted seats in various colleges. There are 41,181 seats of bachelors in commerce, BBA and BCA available in GU affiliated colleges.
Sources in the GU said that in the ongoing offline round, the GU admission committee had invited applications from students who were not able to secure admissions in the online rounds. The colleges received a total of 20,927 applications that includes multiple applications from the same students. The committee has allotted seats to 3,291 students by Wednesday evening. Sources said that this number is likely to increase as Thursday is the last day of the offline admission round.
Sources said that as of now 17,512 commerce seats in GU colleges are still vacant and it is likely that around 15,000-16,000 seats may remain vacant at the end of the offline round too.
Sources said that despite so many commerce seats remaining vacant students’ organisations have been demanding that GU should further increase the number of seats in grant-in-aid colleges. They said that the GU authorities are likely to hold a meeting in the next few days to decide whether to increase the number of seats in private and grant-in-aid commerce colleges or not.
