Jamie Redknapp’s eldest son Charley has officially fled the nest after arriving in America to start university.

Charley just turned 18 earlier this month and has already moved out of home, leaving mum Louise Redknapp and younger brother Beau, 13, at home to start a new chapter in Arizona.

The teen will be pursuing a sporting career and dad Jamie, who just happens to be a footballing legend thanks to his lengthy stint at Liverpool football club, excitedly shared photos of all the merchandise at the University of Arizona, as well as clips of the students in American football training and basketball practice.

After accompanying Charley on the trip across the pond, Jamie, 49, was seen smiling proudly next to his eldest son while wrapping a supportive arm around the youngster. The two also posed in front of a ‘Bear Down’ sign, which is the university’s famous slogan.

Jamie wrote alongside the Instagram post: ‘So a new chapter begins for you at @uarizona Charley . We’re so proud of you and we’ll be with you every run and step of the way . Enjoy and soak in all the incredible facilities at your disposal.

‘Can’t wait to be back to see you again soon . We love you mate.’

The football pundit made sure to take advantage of all that Arizona had to offer – by visiting an In n Out burger restaurant.

‘Oh go on then,’ he cheekily captioned a photo of the eatery.

Charley’s move abroad comes after mum Louise, 47, admitted she was constantly overwhelmed with emotion over her eldest child growing up and leaving the country.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk earlier this month, she said: ‘I keep crying. I cry like 10 times a day at the moment, like if someone’s nice to me I start crying like, “Sorry it’s just my son’s going to university”.

‘Everyone who’s had kids go off to university say, it’s normal. I’m super proud of him but, God, I’m gonna miss him.’

She added: ‘He’s really far away in America, I just wish he was in Nottingham or Birmingham. I’d even take Scotland just not as far as America.’

The former Eternal singer admitted she has considered moving her life abroad too, but wouldn’t want to disrupt Beau’s life and commitments with his budding football career.

She explained: ‘It is something that I would do but I’ve got Beau. Beau’s life is still very much here and Beau’s only 13 so I would never take off and live in another country when Beau’s life is here, school, football and obviously his dad so I would never take him away and I would never leave him.’

‘There are some days where I think it would be nice to experience another country and a bit of a fresh start, but also I’m not sure what I’d do for work,’ she laughed.
