DPSRU inaugurates centre of excellence in precision medicine – Times of India
Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University Inaugurates the 110 feet high National flag Mast and Centre of Excellence In Precision Medicine for creating value in Health care delivery systems of India
Celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, 75 years of India’s Independence, Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University witnessed the inauguration of a fully-integrated Centre of Excellence in Precision Medicine with the state of the art technology in genetics, genomics, laboratory automation and bioinformatics was inaugurated by Mr Naresh Kumar, Chief Secretary of Delhi.
The Centre of Excellence, the first of its kind in India’s first Pharmacy University which aims to provide early and accurate diagnosis of diseases, helps to select the right drug, at the right dose at the right time for the patient by taking into account of individual differences in people’s genetic composition, environment and lifestyle when prescribing medication to treat communicable and non-communicable diseases like cancer and diabetes. The DPSRU-Centre for Precision Medicine and Pharmacy (DCPMP) was approved and funded by the Delhi knowledge Development Foundation (DKDF), DTTE, Govt. of NCT of Delhi.
Following the National flag mast hoisting, dignitaries were given a tour of the DPSRU-Centre for Precision Medicine and Pharmacy. Professor (Dr) Ramesh K. Goyal, Vice Chancellor, DPSRU, briefed about the research achievements of the University, particularly during the COVID era. During the welcome address Prof Goyal shared his research experience in genomics and addressed the gathering that Precision Medicine will be the most emerging approach for disease treatment and prevention in the present times.
Professor (Dr.) Geeta Aggarwal, Dean Academics, briefed about the specific mandate of the centre which is established to foster transdisciplinary national-scale research collaborations to focus on precision medicine and treatment modalities for Indian patients. Prof Geeta told that newly developed facility of Next-generation sequencing (NGS) can be helpful for the identification of infectious diseases caused by various viruses and bacteria including COVID-19, Cervical Cancer, Down syndrome, Tuberculosis (TB), etc through genome sequencing.
The Centre is committed to upgrade knowledge and awareness about the potential and advancement in precision medicine-based research along with strengthening practical knowledge among young and active researchers and academicians who are enthusiastic about using genomes and proteomics in their studies. During the inaugural address, Shri Naresh Kumar expressed his sincere appreciation for the significant accomplishments of DPSRU under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Ramesh K. Goyal. Shri Naresh Kumar also extended the support for all the research endeavours of the University on fast track basis. The event was ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. O.P. Shukla Registrar, DPSRU on behalf of the DPSRU and Centre for Precision Medicine.
DCPMP is instrumental in organizing hands-on training sessions and expert lectures in the domain area. The centre is introducing 4 months certificate program in Next Generation Sequencing and its Applications from the current academic year 2022-23. Currently, the centre is equipped with high-end equipments like Next Generation Sequencer (NGS), Polymerase Chain Reaction Analyser (PCR), Biochemistry Analyzer, Blotting, and Electrophoresis system. The inauguration of National flag Mast hoisting ceremony was organized by Prof (Dr) Rajiv Tonk, Dean Students Welfare and Prof (Dr) Richa Rai, Extra Curricular Incharge of the University.The inauguration of DPSRU-Centre for Precision Medicine in Pharmacy was well coordinated by Project team of DCPMP, Prof (Dr) Geeta Aggarwal, Dr. Jaseela Majeed, Dr. Ajit K Thakur, Dr. Ruchika Sharma, Dr. Subodh Gupta, Ms. Keerti, and Mr Jawed.
It is notable that on the same day, a 110 feet high National flag structure was also inaugurated at the campus premises by the honourable Chief Secy. The National flag mast will remain hoisted in the campus throughout and instill a sense of pride and honour to all brave hearts who have laid down their lives for the freedom of our country.
The programme is attended by Mrs Alize Vaz, Secretary Training and Technical Education (TTE), GNCTD, Prof. Ramesh K Goyal, Vice Chancellor, Dr O. P Shukla, Registrar along with faculty, students and staffs of the University.
