Commandos 3 Remaster Will Release First on Xbox, PC, and Game Pass

Kalypso Media has announced that Commandos 3 – HD Remaster will release on August 30th, 2022. However, the release date is only applicable for PC and Xbox, as per the release date trailer.

The good news is that Xbox Game Pass subscribers on PC and Xbox will get Commandos 3 – HD Remaster as part of their monthly sub. You’ll be able to download the game to your PC and/or Xbox from August 30th. Or, if you’re fully embracing the cloud-powered future, you can skip the download and just play the game via Xbox Cloud Gaming, though you’ll need Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to use this perk.

So when will Commandos 3 – HD Remaster release for everybody else? That’s a good question and, unfortunately, one we can’t answer just yet. The official release from Kalypso simply states that it will be “available on other platforms later this year,” meaning Switch and PlayStation players should be able to take their elite special forces team behind enemy lines this side of Christmas. Whether it will launch into PlayStation’s re-vamped PS Plus service remains to be seen, but you can guarantee it’ll be a paid release on Switch.

Commandos 3 – HD Remaster follows on from Commandos 2, which was released as a remaster back in 2020. Players can expect greater visual fidelity with fully remodeled 3D characters, enhanced environments, HD graphics, gameplay tweaks, and even a new autosave feature that should help hard-up players cheese their way through some of the game’s more difficult missions.

It’s a good time to get re-invested in the Commandos series, or just get to know it in general if you weren’t around for its heyday. Commandos was a big deal back in the early 2000s, but sadly, the franchise stalled and was left out in the cold. Kalypso Media, the game’s publisher, has since set up a brand new development studio in Frankfurt, Germany, to helm a new installment in the series.
