Bad to worse in Tigertown as Brooks’ season could be over after training injury

Luke Brooks may have played his last game for the Wests Tigers after injuring his calf at training amid speculation over his future at the club.

Brooks suffered the calf injury, which he has endured before, at training on Wednesday that has ruled him out of the Tigers’ clash against the Broncos on Saturday night.

The much-maligned player has played almost every game of the season, switching between halfback and five-eighth.

Brooks will have scans on his calf to determine the extent of the damage but could be sidelined for up to six weeks, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Interim coach Brett Kimmorley hasn’t confirmed who will replace Brooks but Jock Madden is the likely man to take the No. 7 reins.

“It hasn’t been confirmed until the doc gives us a report today, but he isn’t playing this weekend or travelling with the team,” incoming Tigers coach Tim Sheens said.

“Apparently he has had the same injury in the past.

“If it ends up being a bad one it can be four to six weeks and the season is gone really in that regard.

“We will have to wait for confirmation on that from the doc. We’ll get the scan back today and we’re a bit at sea until we get that.”

Brooks was heavily linked with a move away from the Tigers last season and the rumblings have only grown louder with the club currently sitting last.

The Tigers haven’t played finals since 2011 and Brooks has been their chief playmaker since 2013.

Benji Marshall, who will become the Tigers coach in 2025, has spoken highly of Brooks but the 27-year-old has been linked to the Knights.
