‘Back to the Future’ star Lea Thompson and ‘Degrassi’ alum Stacey Farber play mother and daughter in ‘The Spencer Sisters’
A “Back to the Future” cast member and a “Degrassi” alumnus will star in CTV’s new detective series “The Spencer Sisters.”
Lea Thompson, known for co-starring in the “Back to the Future” movies as well as the films “Howard the Duck,” “Some Kind of Wonderful” and “All the Right Moves,” joins Stacey Farber of “Degrassi: The Next Generation,” “Saving Hope” and “Virgin River” in the CTV original series.
Farber plays Darby Spencer, a former police officer who partners in a private detective agency with her estranged mystery novelist mother Victoria Spencer, played by Thompson.
According to CTV’s synopsis, bestselling author Victoria is suffering from crippling writer’s block when daughter Darby — who quits her job as a cop after an unjust reprimand — returns home and they solve a crime together, which kick-starts Victoria’s writing and starts to mend her relationship with Darby.
The series, from CTV, Entertainment One and Buffalo Gal Pictures, begins production next month in Winnipeg. It was created by Alan McCullough, who was a writer and producer on “Private Eyes” and “Rookie Blue.” It will be broadcast in 2023.
