Jurgen Klopp issues Fabinho statement after Liverpool star’s dad dies
Jurgen Klopp has sent his well-wishes from everyone at Liverpool to Fabinho following the tragic death of his father. The Brazilian’s partner Rebeca Tavares confirmed the devastating blow on social media to fans on Friday morning and Fabinho is now expected to miss Saturday’s clash with Burnley (12:30pm).
It’s the second time within a matter of months that the Liverpool squad have been rocked by such sad news following the passing of Alisson’s father earlier this year.
The goalkeeper’s dad Jose Agostinho Becker tragically drowned at a dam near his holiday home in Lavras do Sul.
Liverpool granted their No 1 some time away from the field to grieve as he missed the 2-0 win at Sheffield United.
Klopp has made it clear Fabinho’s privacy will be respected, hinting that he will let the player decide his availability for this weekend’s visit of Burnley.
“It is a private situation. He’s here and doing what he is able to do,” Klopp said.
“We all feel for him and are with him. We gave him all the warmth we have at this moment.
“We gave our condolences to his family and all the love we can. The rest is private.”
Fabinho’s partner Tavares tweeted this morning: “Morning y’all. For those who are asking on Instagram…. Fabinho’s father has passed. He will be missed.”

She later paid tribute to Joao Roberto, promising to take care of his son, Fabinho.
“Father-in-law, you will always be remembered with that smile and that passion,” Tavares wrote.
“I thank God for the privilege of knowing you. Your grandchildren will know the exact grandfather they had.
“I love you. I’ll take good care of [Fabinho].”
Fabinho came off the bench in last Saturday’s resounding 3-0 win at Norwich on the opening day of the season.
Liverpool’s ‘Lighthouse’ has been slowly stepping up his fitness following his involvement at this summer’s Copa America with Brazil.
He was expected to start tomorrow’s encounter with the Clarets but Klopp may now be forced into a rethink depending on Fabinho’s mindset.
The Reds will be looking to make it two wins from two but Sean Dyche’s side have taken four points from their past two visits to Anfield.
