Grenfell campaigners hold empty street party to remember those killed in fire
Justice4Grenfell held an empty street party ahead of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in a protest against a lack of justice for those responsible for the fire. On Monday (May 31), The campaign group set a table with 72 empty seats and laid it with paper cups in Grenfell green, plates, Grenfell flags underneath Justin4Grenfull (J4G) bunting.
June 14 marks five years since the fire that killed 72 people but there has still not been any arrests. The paper plates on the table had the names of the victims printed on them.
The table on Grenfell Road sat overlooked by the remains of the building which now sits behind scaffolding and tarpaulin. The seats remained empty to remind the nation of the people killed.

J4G is a community led organisation focused on the long-term goal of obtaining justice for the bereaved families, survivors, evacuated residents and the wider local community. The groups aim is to ensure that what happened at Grenfell remains in the public consciousness.
Following the tragedy in 2017 the Queen visited the area to meet locals affected by the blaze in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. A borough which is notorious for disproportionate wealth.
Nabil Choucair lost six family members in the fire, he said: “‘I miss my family so much; we enjoyed many good times together, but they were taken from us in the worst of circumstances.”
