Fans are counting down the days until Stranger Things season four drops on Netflix after three years off-screen.

The thrilling Netflix hit – which airs May 27 – will follow a new ‘war’ for Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and the rest of the Hawkins gang, and, nearly three years since the last season, this time around it looks to be just as scary as we’d expect, with a new gruesome villain known as Vecna.

It was recently reported that each new episode cost an eye-watering $30million (£24.4million) to make.

With nine new episodes in the series, that would mean that the entire season cost approximately $270m (£209m)

So it looks like season four is going to be one to remember!

But when will it be available to watch?

What time does Stranger Things come out on Netflix?

The first few episodes will drop at 8am on the streaming giant this Friday, and episodes eight and nine will premiere on July 1.

Stranger Things creators The Duffer Brothers have also revealed that not only will season four be the longest yet, it will be the penultimate season of the beloved show.

In an open letter to fans posted on the official Netflix blog, Matt and Ross Duffer called season four the ‘most challenging season yet’ – but added that it was the ‘most rewarding’.

They said: ‘Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things. At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons.

‘It proved too large to tell in four, but – as you’ll soon see for yourselves – we are now hurtling toward our finale. Season four will be the penultimate season; season five will be the last.

Excitement is on the rise for season four of Stranger Things, with eagle-eyed fans recently realising that a teaser had subtly confirmed the return of a certain character.

Elsewhere actress Sadie Sink who plays Max Mayfield, has promised that the fourth season is ‘out of this world.’

‘It’s the most bizarre season we’ve ever had,’ she said.

Speaking to People, she emphasised the spectacle of the new episodes, saying the upcoming season is ‘just the scale of it is out of this world’.

The trailer shows Max mourning the loss of her brother Billy Hargrove (who was killed in the last season) before she levitates at his gravesite, with Sadie recalling that particular episode as ‘wild.’

Stranger Things season 4 part 1 will be available to stream on Netflix from Friday, May 27.
